SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Provincial President Kashmir, Advocate Showkat Ahmad Mir, on Monday urged the divisional administration to ensure adequate availability of essential commodities and services in remote and inaccessible areas ahead of winter.
Mir called for sufficient supplies of electricity, drinking water, foodgrains, particularly rice and flour, cooking gas and firewood to meet public requirements during the winter months.
He said snowfall had already occurred in several hilly and remote areas, while a cold wave had begun affecting the plains. He expressed concern over the availability of adequate stocks in areas including Machil, Tangdhar, Keran and Gurez in Kashmir, and Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan in the Jammu division.
Mir also stressed the need for advance stocking of essential medicines and medical equipment at health centres in areas that remain cut off during winter, saying patients should not face difficulties in accessing treatment.
He urged the government to make arrangements for helicopter services in these areas to ensure emergency assistance and transportation whenever required.
