SRINAGAR: The Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) Srinagar on Thursday reviewed four cases of undertrial prisoners lodged in Central Jail Srinagar and recommended two for consideration under the applicable guidelines.
The meeting was chaired by Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman Naseer Ahmad Dar. It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Secretary DLSA Srinagar, Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar and the public prosecutor of the Principal District and Sessions Judge’s court.
The committee examined the cases in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines and the UTRC framework to identify eligible prisoners for legal relief, including bail or other measures permissible under law.
Dar stressed the need for timely review of undertrial cases to ensure that eligible prisoners were not kept in custody unnecessarily. He also called for coordination among the departments concerned to facilitate prompt action on eligible cases.
The committee issued directions and recommendations for follow-up action by the concerned authorities.
