SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Thursday set a one-month deadline for completing pending works under the Greater Srinagar Comprehensive Sewerage Scheme, directing the executing agency to ensure the project is ready for commissioning and subsequently hand it over to the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED).
During a review meeting, Garg assessed the status of the 60 million litres per day (MLD) Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Noorbagh and the remaining works required for its completion and commissioning. The scheme is being implemented under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM).
The pending works include installation of a hydraulic gate at the Noorbagh outfall near the damaged riverbank, remodelling of transformers at the Outfall Pumping Station and Infall Pumping Station, plugging of leakages in the treatment plant, and refurbishment of all agitators and aerators.
Garg directed the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) to complete the outstanding works within the stipulated period and hand over the project to UEED thereafter.
He also instructed the Executive Engineer of UEED to inspect the site twice a week to monitor progress, strengthen coordination among the agencies concerned and ensure that the remaining work is completed within the deadline.
