Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Wednesday directed officials to examine alternative alignments for Srinagar Ring Road Phase III and the proposed Parimpora-Dalgate flyover, with emphasis on protecting water bodies, maintaining access to key facilities and minimising public inconvenience.
Chairing a meeting with officials from various departments, Garg reviewed proposed changes to the alignment of the Lasjan-Pandach stretch of Srinagar Ring Road Phase III and the Parimpora-Dalgate flyover.
During the review of the Ring Road project, he directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to compile details of structures and departmental utilities falling along the proposed alignments, including religious structures, to assess potential obstacles and the cost implications.
He also asked the concerned authorities to explore modifications to the alignment to ensure that the road does not encroach upon the city’s major water body.
Reviewing the Parimpora-Dalgate flyover proposal, Garg directed the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department to examine an alternative alignment from Qamarwari to Nalamar and onward to Karanagar.
He stressed the need to maintain connectivity to key facilities, including Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital, while minimising traffic disruptions during project execution.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic, Vice Chairman of the Lakes Conservation and Management Authority, NHAI Project Director, and officers from the R&B Department, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Srinagar Development Authority and other concerned departments.
The departments were directed to coordinate their assessments of the proposed alignments, keeping public convenience and essential infrastructure in view.
