Kishtwar: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) and district police booked a driver for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol during a joint enforcement drive at Shalimar Naka in Kishtwar on Sunday.
The driver’s vehicle was seized and his driving licence disqualified under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, officials said.
The drive was conducted on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma and under the supervision of Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Tasleem Wani, with a focus on detecting drunken driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
The enforcement team, led by Shalimar Police Post in-charge Parshotam Singh and Motor Vehicle Inspectors Robin Parihar and Imran Choudhary, used breath analysers to detect alcohol consumption and rapid drug test kits to screen for possible drug impairment.
Officials said the drive was aimed at deterring traffic violations and improving road safety. Drivers were also sensitised to the risks associated with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
