KULGAM: Property cards were distributed among rural landowners from different tehsils of Kulgam district under the SVAMITVA scheme on Thursday, as Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam directed revenue officials to expedite pending surveys, Farmer ID generation and other revenue-related work.

The programme, held at the Mini-Secretariat in Kulgam, reviewed the implementation of the Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) initiative, which uses drone-based mapping to establish property records and provide rural households with legal records of ownership.

Alam informed the gathering that SVAMITVA work had been completed in 178 villages, while the remaining villages were at various stages of implementation. He asked the revenue team to accelerate the pending work to ensure timely completion.

The programme also reviewed challenges in preparing village maps and ownership records, including disputes among co-sharers, discrepancies in revenue records and issues relating to property transfers and mortgages.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Viqar Ahmad Giri stressed the need to complete the remaining work within stipulated timelines.

Following the programme, Alam chaired a separate review meeting on Farmer ID generation and the implementation of Agristack, assessing progress and issues affecting the process.

He directed revenue officials to contact farmers and facilitate the generation of their IDs at the earliest. Officials were also asked to reach out to migrated families wherever necessary to ensure that eligible farmers were not left out.

The meeting reviewed the bucketing of villages, with work reported as completed in 208 villages, and discussed pending issues affecting Farmer ID generation under Agristack.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed officials to expedite pending mutations, rectify discrepancies in revenue records and ensure that Patwar Khanas remained functional and accessible to the public.

The meetings were attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Viqar Ahmad Giri, IAS probationer Dr Najma A Salam, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Reyaz Ahmad Shah, Sub-Divisional Magistrate D.H. Pora Bashir-ul-Hassan, tehsildars, naib tehsildars, patwaris and landowners.
