ANANTNAG: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat on Thursday reviewed the implementation of social welfare schemes and industrial development initiatives in the district, directing officials to ensure timely delivery of benefits and address bottlenecks affecting entrepreneurs.
During a review of welfare schemes, officials informed the meeting that 80,743 social security pension cases had been sanctioned on the Jansugam portal, while 76,137 beneficiaries had received payments under the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) up to September 2026.
The meeting reviewed social security pensions, marriage assistance, disability support, scholarships, child protection, women’s empowerment and rehabilitation programmes. The implementation of PM-YASASVI scholarships, Mission Shakti, One Stop Centre, Child Helpline and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was also assessed.
The Deputy Commissioner directed officers to clear pending applications within stipulated timelines, verify beneficiary records to prevent duplication and strengthen field-level monitoring. He also stressed the need to address public grievances promptly, improve awareness about eligibility criteria and ensure that procedural delays do not deprive eligible individuals of assistance.
In a separate review of the Industries and Commerce Department, the Deputy Commissioner assessed the progress of departmental schemes, industrial infrastructure and employment-generation initiatives.
The General Manager of the District Industries Centre (DIC), Anantnag, briefed the meeting on the implementation of various schemes and challenges affecting industrial development.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed issues faced by applicants under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), particularly portal-related problems, and called for coordination with the concerned authorities to resolve them. He directed officials to guide eligible applicants through the application process and address implementation-related hurdles.
The meeting also examined infrastructure gaps in industrial estates, particularly 14 newly transferred estates, including concerns over basic amenities and facilities required to establish and operate industrial units.
Bhat said the identified issues would be examined for appropriate action in coordination with the concerned departments. He stressed the need to improve industrial infrastructure, intensify awareness about government-sponsored schemes and encourage young people to pursue entrepreneurship and self-employment.
The meetings were attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, General Manager DIC, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Planning Officer, District Social Welfare Officer and other concerned officers.
