Budgam: Nearly 50,000 devotees from Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country attended the annual Urs of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (RA), popularly known as Sheikh-ul-Aalam, at Charar-i-Sharief in Budgam district on Friday.
The religious congregation was marked by Friday prayers and special supplications, with devotees gathering at the shrine to pay their respects to the saint, also known as Alamdar-e-Kashmir.
Among those who travelled to Charar-i-Sharief for the occasion was Shabeen Ansari, who came from Delhi. She said devotees awaited the annual Urs with deep faith and travelled from different places to offer prayers at the shrine.
Another devotee, Mohammad Aslam, said he visited the shrine every year to pray for peace, prosperity and development in Jammu and Kashmir and the country.
He also called for people to live together in peace and harmony.
Police, Traffic Police and other civil departments were deployed along roads from early morning to regulate traffic and facilitate the movement of devotees. Officials coordinated arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the congregation.
The annual Urs holds spiritual and cultural significance in Kashmir, drawing devotees who gather to remember the teachings of Sheikh-ul-Aalam and offer prayers for peace, harmony and prosperity.
