Srinagar: Apni Party Provincial President Kashmir Mohammad Ashraf Mir on Friday criticised the National Conference (NC) over what he described as its failure to fulfil electoral promises and questioned the recent delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a workers’ convention at Central Shalteng constituency in Srinagar, Mir said the delimitation process had significantly altered electoral boundaries, leaving many residents, particularly young people, unclear about constituency limits and demographic changes.
He said the scale of private development and population growth in Shalteng warranted the creation of two separate constituencies to ensure adequate representation.
Criticising the NC government, Mir said providing basic facilities was a fundamental responsibility of elected representatives rather than a favour to the public. He questioned why the party, which secured a substantial electoral mandate, had not done enough to raise issues concerning people’s rights.
Mir urged voters to look beyond emotional appeals and assess political parties on the basis of their performance and accountability. He said elected representatives should prioritise public welfare instead of focusing on their personal comfort.
The convention was organised by Zaffar Habib Dar, Apni Party’s Srinagar district president and constituency in-charge for Central Shalteng.
Dar also criticised the government’s approach to public service, saying infrastructure such as roads was a basic public necessity and should not be projected as a favour by those in power.
He accused the NC of prioritising political positions and personal interests over public concerns and alleged that the party had failed to deliver on the promises made during elections.
Apni Party State Youth President and spokesperson Yawar Dilawar Mir, Women’s Wing president Dilshad Shaheen and spokesperson Ishrat Bhat also addressed the gathering.
During the convention, party leaders welcomed several new entrants, including Karan Singh, Sajad Ahmad, Mehraj Din, Nazir Ahmad Shagoo, Gulzar Ahmad, Jan Mohd Beigh, Showkat Ahmad, Umar Ahmad, Imran Ahmad, Babar Sofi, Ubaid Ahmad and Imtiyaz Ahmad, among others.
