Srinagar: Two persons were killed and seven others critically injured when an SUV skidded off the road in Ramban district, officials said on Thursday.
The accident took place on Wednesday night when the vehicle carrying nine persons was going towards Chunthan.
The deceased were identified as the driver of the vehicle, Vijay Singh, and 26-year-old Sunil Singh.
While one of the injured was referred to Jammu, the remaining six were referred to Government Medical College, Anantnag.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have expressed grief over the tragic road accident in Ramban.
In a post on X, the LG wrote: “Deeply anguished by the unfortunate road accident in Ukhral, Ramban. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families, prayers for speedy recovery of the injured. I have directed the district administration to provide best possible treatment to the injured.”
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed deep grief over the loss of two lives in a tragic road accident.
Expressing his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the chief minister conveyed his solidarity with them in this hour of grief, and directed the administration and medical authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment and all necessary assistance to the injured, an official press release said.
Meanwhile, in a separate accident, a 22-year-old man died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in the Bari Brahmana area of Samba district, officials said.
An official said the incident took place in the morning near Police Station Bari Brahmana, where, as per the initial report, an unidentified vehicle struck the man, leaving him in a pool of blood.
He said that following the incident, police reached the spot and took the body into custody. The deceased was later identified as Lulain Surain (22), a resident of Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, police have initiated necessary proceedings and launched an investigation.
