SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday arrested four alleged drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances during separate operations in Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts of south Kashmir.
According to police, a naka party from Police Station Anantnag intercepted a suspect at Mattan Adda and recovered 3 grams of a heroin-like substance from his possession. The accused was identified as Umair Nabi Shah, son of Ghulam Nabi Shah, a resident of Marwah in Kishtwar, presently residing at Donipawa.
In Kulgam, police intercepted a Volkswagen Polo car (JK03D-7723) during checking at Choimulla on the National Highway. During the search, 25 bottles of codeine syrup, each containing 100 ml, were recovered from a black bag concealed inside the vehicle. Two occupants of the vehicle were arrested on the spot.
In another operation in Shopian, a police team conducting routine checking at Nadigam Kundalan Crossing apprehended a suspect and recovered 2.16 grams of a heroin-like substance from his possession. The accused was identified as Shreeraz Ahmad Lone, son of Mohammad Ramzan Lone, a resident of Tungdano in Kulgam.
Police said cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered at the respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
Reiterating its commitment to tackling the drug menace, police said stringent action would continue against those involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
