Srinagar: Police have arrested five “terrorist associates” in Kulgam district, recovering two pistols, three magazines, and three grenades from them, police said on Wednesday.
A police spokesperson said that on a credible input, security forces arrested five terrorist associates at Khewan Chadder in the south Kashmir district.
The police identified the arrested as Tajamul Hussain Mir, a resident of Gufbal, Rehmat Ali Naikoo, Tehrim Ahmed Bhat, and Manzoor Ahmed Bhat — all residents of Khrewan, and Kifiyat Ahmed Dar, a resident of Maltalhama, Kulgam.
The spokesperson said arms and ammunition, including two pistols, three magazines, 40 9mm rounds and three grenades, have been recovered from their possession.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Kulgam police station, and further investigation is underway.
Hideout busted in Handwara
Security forces on Wednesday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from an old hideout in the Nagda Nar forest area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.
A police spokesperson said that based on specific information, a joint team of Handwara Police, Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF conducted a search operation in the forest area.
He said that during the search, the joint team detected and destroyed an old hideout and recovered one AK-47 rifle, three grenades, 857 AK rounds, 192 PIKA rounds, eight AK magazines, one silencer and 83 pistol rounds, besides other incriminating material.
The official said that in this regard, FIR No. 232 under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation initiated.
