SRINAGAR: Several delegations and individuals called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday and raised issues related to religious tourism, local development and the promotion of the handloom sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ravinder Pandita, chairman of the Save Sharda Committee and president of the All India Kashmiri Samaj, met the Lieutenant Governor and discussed matters related to the development of the Maa Sharda Temple at Teetwal along the Line of Control in Kupwara district. He was accompanied by Mahaveer Thusoo.
Pandita also raised issues concerning border and religious tourism and sought enhancement of pilgrim facilities, including the establishment of a Yatri Niwas at Teetwal. He informed the Lieutenant Governor that more than 10,000 pilgrims had visited the Sharda Temple this year.
Former Municipal Council Baramulla president Omar Kakroo also met Sinha and highlighted various developmental issues concerning Baramulla town.
In a separate meeting, a delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Handloom Cooperative Societies and Weavers Association, led by its president Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, submitted a memorandum seeking measures for the growth and promotion of the handloom sector in the Union Territory. The delegation highlighted issues affecting weavers and cooperative societies and sought support for the sector’s development.
