Srinagar: The University of Kashmir on Monday inaugurated the 3rd J&K International Conference on Breast and Allied Cancers, bringing together oncologists, researchers, clinicians and public health experts to discuss advances in cancer research, diagnosis and treatment.
The three-day conference, organised by the Department of Bioresources in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Patients Benefit Foundation, focuses on precision oncology, cancer genomics, immunotherapy, artificial intelligence in oncology, early detection, biomarkers, drug discovery and personalised cancer care.
Sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), JKST&IC and J&K Bank, the conference has attracted participants from across the country and abroad, both in-person and online.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan, addressing the inaugural session, underscored the need to strengthen links between scientific research and clinical practice to improve cancer prevention, early detection and patient care.
Vice-Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University Prof Rana Pratap highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration among universities, research institutions and healthcare professionals to accelerate progress in cancer research and treatment.
Senior oncologist Dr Sameer Kaul stressed the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment and greater public awareness about breast cancer, while Dean Research Prof Bashir Ahmad Ganaie and Prof Nazir Dar of the Department of Biochemistry also addressed the gathering.
An abstract book featuring research contributions to be presented during the conference was released on the occasion.
Organising Secretary Dr Manzoor Ahmad Mir said the event provides a platform for scientific exchange and collaboration in the field of breast and allied cancers, while Head of the Department of Bioresources Dr Riaz-ul-Rehman presented the vote of thanks.
The conference includes a breast cancer screening camp, paper and poster presentations, panel discussions and plenary lectures by leading scientists and healthcare experts. Students, researchers, faculty members and clinicians from various institutions are participating in the event.
