SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag and Pulwama districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag, a police team from Police Post Sangam apprehended a suspect during naka checking at G.B. Khalil Naina Road near NH-44 in Sangam. The accused was identified as Majid Fayaz Lone, son of Fayaz Ahmad Lone, a resident of Gousia Colony, Kulgam.
During his personal search, police recovered 9.25 grams of charas from his possession. A case under FIR No. 280/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate operation in Pulwama, police intercepted a suspect during naka checking at Newa and recovered 70.5 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession.
The accused was identified as Mohd Younis Sheikh, son of Mohd Yousuf Sheikh, a resident of Newa, Pulwama. Police have registered FIR No. 203/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Pulwama and initiated further investigation.
Police said the arrests were part of its ongoing drive against drug trafficking and efforts to dismantle narcotics networks operating in the Valley.
