BANDIPORA: Chontiwari emerged champions of a T20 cricket tournament organised by District Police Bandipora under the Civic Action Programme, defeating Wanpora by 16 runs in the final at Gurez Stadium on Monday.
The knockout-format tournament featured 16 teams from different areas of Gurez and Tulail.
Batting first in the final, Chontiwari scored 185 runs in 19.5 overs. In reply, Wanpora managed 169 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs, falling short by 16 runs.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Vinod Kumar, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, while Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora Ajaz Ahmed Zargar attended as guest of honour.
The officers distributed trophies, medals and cash prizes among the winning and runner-up teams.
A large number of spectators and cricket enthusiasts from Gurez Valley witnessed the final match. Senior police officers, including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gurez, were also present on the occasion.
