Jammu: Poonch Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shafkat Hussain Bhat on Monday cautioned residents along the Line of Control (LoC) in the district, saying those found facilitating, supporting, harbouring or assisting anti-national, anti-social or criminal elements would face strict action.
At the same time, he assured law-abiding residents of all possible assistance from police.
Bhat was addressing a ‘Thana Darbar’ programme at the border village of Khari as part of efforts to strengthen police-public engagement and ensure responsive policing in remote and border areas.
Given the strategic location of Khari and other villages along the LoC in Poonch district, the SSP discussed the security situation and urged residents to remain vigilant and immediately share any suspicious movement, activity or information with police.
He stressed that active cooperation of border residents is vital to maintaining peace and preventing anti-national and anti-social elements from exploiting vulnerable areas.
During the interaction, residents apprised officials of various issues, including those related to village defence guards (VDGs), character verification and certificate cases, police deployment at Betar Bridge, security arrangements and other local concerns.
He said strict legal action would be taken against persons involved in drug trafficking, facilitation or any other unlawful activity.
