Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama resident for allegedly preparing and using a forged communication purportedly issued by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a Crime Branch spokesperson, the chargesheet in FIR No. 29/2026 has been filed before the court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, against Saqlain Mushtaq Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Deeri, Pulwama.
The case was registered under Sections 204, 319(2), 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigators alleged that the accused prepared a forged communication addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, by falsely impersonating the Lieutenant Governor. The letter allegedly carried a counterfeit official letterhead and forged signature and was intended to influence the functioning of the district police administration.
The Crime Branch said that evidence collected during the investigation supported the allegations and that the case had been concluded as “proved” before the filing of the chargesheet.
The matter will now be examined by the court.
The EOW also advised the public to verify the authenticity of communications purportedly issued by government authorities and report any suspected cases involving forged documents, official letterheads or signatures to the Crime Branch.
