Srinagar: Around eight to ten residential houses, along with cowsheds, were gutted in a major fire that broke out during the night in Mungli village of the remote Warwan area of Kishtwar district, officials said on Wednesday.
The blaze, which erupted around midnight, rapidly spread through the village, reducing several residential structures and adjoining livestock shelters to ashes. The extent of the destruction was significant, with initial reports putting the number of residential houses gutted at between eight and ten.
No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
The fire has once again brought into focus the vulnerability of settlements in the far-flung Warwan region, where the absence of dedicated firefighting infrastructure can make it difficult to respond quickly to major fire emergencies.
Local residents were involved in efforts to contain the blaze as the fire engulfed the structures. The exact circumstances that led to the outbreak of the fire were not immediately known.
