SRINAGAR: The 9th National Deaf Men’s T20 Cricket Championship 2026 began in Srinagar on Sunday, bringing together deaf cricketers from across the country for a week-long competition.
The tournament is being held from September 28 to October 4 at Bakshi Stadium and the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) Ground.
The championship opened with a ceremony at Bakshi Stadium attended by officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. Addressing participants, the council’s secretary highlighted the importance of providing equal opportunities for athletes and promoting inclusive participation in sports.
Officials said the event has attracted teams from different parts of the country and offers deaf athletes a national-level platform to compete and showcase their talent.
The championship is being organised with support from the J&K Sports Council as part of efforts to promote inclusive and competitive sports and utilise sports infrastructure for hosting national-level events.
The participation of teams from across India also reflects Srinagar’s growing role as a venue for national sporting competitions, officials said. The tournament will continue until October 4 with matches scheduled at both venues.
