BUDGAM: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Saturday inaugurated 2.4 kilometres of inner link roads at Tangnar Sheikhpura in Chadoora and laid the foundation stone for a bridge connecting Dharamsala Khampora Saria with Wanpora village.
The road works, executed at an estimated cost of ₹25 lakh, are aimed at improving local connectivity and easing movement for residents, students, farmers and other commuters in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Rather said improved road infrastructure was essential for better access to education, healthcare, markets and other public services, particularly in rural areas. He stressed the need for timely execution of development works and adherence to prescribed quality standards.
Later, the Speaker laid the foundation stone for the proposed bridge linking Dharamsala Khampora Saria and Wanpora.
According to officials, the bridge is expected to improve connectivity between the two villages and facilitate smoother movement of residents, particularly those who currently face difficulties using the existing route.
Rather said the project would address a long-pending connectivity requirement of the area and improve communication between adjoining habitations. He emphasised that infrastructure projects should be taken up based on local needs and completed within stipulated timelines.
He also underscored the importance of road and bridge infrastructure in improving quality of life and supporting economic activity and access to public services in rural areas.
Local residents and representatives welcomed the projects, saying improved connectivity would ease travel and benefit people living in the area.
The Speaker said efforts would continue to strengthen basic infrastructure and promote development works across the constituency.
