ANANTNAG: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, on Saturday called on young people to actively participate in sports and stay away from drug abuse, saying greater involvement in constructive activities can help build discipline, confidence and social responsibility.
The Deputy Commissioner made the remarks while attending the final of the BPL-6 Cricket Tournament at Nilandrusu Cricket Ground in Bijbehara.
Addressing players and spectators, Bhat said sports play an important role in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and a positive outlook among youth. He encouraged students and aspiring sportspersons to make full use of opportunities available to them and pursue their goals with dedication.
Interacting with participants, he urged them to remain focused on their academic and sporting pursuits and to cultivate values such as perseverance, teamwork and healthy competition.
The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration was committed to providing opportunities and platforms for young people to showcase their talent. He appealed to the youth to contribute towards keeping the district free from drug abuse and other social problems.
Bhat also stressed the role of parents, teachers, sports organisers and community members in supporting young people in pursuing constructive interests.
He appreciated the organisers for holding the tournament and providing a platform for budding cricketers at the grassroots level. Such competitions, he said, help young players develop skills, gain competitive experience and promote sportsmanship.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner distributed trophies, awards and mementos among the players and participants and congratulated them on their performances. The event concluded with recognition of the efforts of teams, organisers, officials and supporters involved in the tournament.
