SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that restoration of infrastructure damaged by flash floods and cloudbursts is underway across the Union Territory, with temporary repairs completed in several affected areas and permanent restoration works in progress.
Replying on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to a question raised by MLA Shakti Raj Parihar during Question Hour, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said roads and water supply schemes damaged during 2025-26 have been temporarily restored, while permanent restoration is being carried out.
He said infrastructure affected during 2026-27 has also been partially restored, with permanent works being taken up in all affected districts.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed the House that financial assistance is being provided to affected families under the norms of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). However, he clarified that no special rehabilitation package has been sanctioned for victims of the natural calamities.
He said additional assistance has been extended through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to families whose residential structures were damaged.
According to Choudhary, following the cloudburst at Chishoti in Kishtwar district during 2025-26, ₹1 lakh each was provided to 16 households whose houses were damaged, while ₹25,000 each was sanctioned for three partially damaged houses.
For 2026-27, he said ₹108 lakh has been released from the CMRF in Poonch district for 87 beneficiaries whose structures suffered damage.
In Rajouri district, ₹281 lakh has been released under the CMRF for 377 beneficiaries affected by damage to residential structures, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government remains focused on restoring essential infrastructure, providing admissible relief to affected families and expediting permanent reconstruction works in areas hit by natural disasters.
