SRINAGAR: Police have arrested a man and seized the vehicle allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident in Sopore that left one person dead and another injured, officials said on Thursday.
According to police, the accident took place at Chak Rody Khan in Sopore when a motorcycle (JK09E-3415) carrying two persons was hit by an unidentified vehicle, whose driver allegedly fled the scene.
The injured were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Sopore for treatment. Police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
Officials said investigators examined CCTV footage from the area and adjoining routes and used technical inputs to identify the vehicle and its driver.
Police said the vehicle was traced and seized within 24 hours of the incident, while the driver, identified as Arif Ahmad Dar, a resident of Gund Jageer in Bandipora district, was arrested.
One of the injured, Haziq Ahmad Mir of Kehnoosa, Bandipora, later succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura, police said. The second injured person is undergoing treatment.
Police said additional legal provisions are being incorporated into the case following the death of the victim. Further investigation is underway.
