New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted virtually with ‘Seva Yatris’ travelling from his birthplace, Vadnagar in Gujarat, to his ‘karmabhoomi’ Varanasi as part of the BJP’s ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, asking them about their experiences on the road, their interactions with people and the new learnings they have gathered during the journey.
The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan was launched on Modi’s birthday, September 17, to commemorate his 25 years in public life, with a series of programmes focused on youth outreach and public participation.
While announcing the Abhiyan, the BJP had said 10 teams would travel from Vadnagar to Varanasi and another 10 from Varanasi to Vadnagar, with around 1,000 youths participating in the Seva Sankalp Yatra.
The 20-day yatras will be passing through 10 states and include interactions with villagers, farmers, anganwadi workers, youth clubs and students, apart from discussions on welfare schemes and collection of public feedback, according to the party.
During the interaction, Modi also recalled his own experiences of participating in and organising yatras, including his association with the Vadnagar-Varanasi route, and emphasised that a yatra is not merely about travelling from one place to another but also about meeting people, understanding communities and translating the spirit of seva into action, an official statement said.
Modi also linked the ongoing efforts of the Seva Yatris with the larger journey of nation-building towards Viksit Bharat-2047, highlighting the role of young people in taking the spirit of service to the grassroots, it said.
BJYM national president Hemang Joshi, who was in Rajasthan during the interaction, said hearing directly from Modi and sharing the experiences of the yatra is a source of motivation for the young participants.
“Today’s interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji was a powerful moment for every Seva Yatri. After spending days on the road, travelling through villages, meeting beneficiaries and participating in different seva activities, hearing directly from Modi ji was not just an address — it was a fresh source of energy for the entire Yatra,” Joshi said.
He said Modi’s 25 years in public life teach young people that “seva is not an activity limited to a particular occasion; it is a continuous commitment to society and the nation”.
The interaction came as the Seva Sankalp Yatra continued across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, with 20 yatras undertaking community service and public engagement activities, including 13 in Madhya Pradesh, five in Rajasthan and two in Uttar Pradesh.
Across the three states, the yatras have undertaken activities including water conservation initiatives, tree plantation drives, service at old-age homes, gau seva, cleanliness campaigns, beneficiary interactions and organ-donation pledges.
These activities have also involved interactions with locals and beneficiaries of various welfare initiatives, the party said.
The programmes also witnessed participation from Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Madhya Pradesh minister Prahlad Patel, Uttar Pradesh ministers Rakesh Singh and Dharamveer Prajapati, and Lok Sabha member V D Sharma.
