SRINAGAR: The District Srinagar Softball Championship 2026 got underway at Gindun Sports Centre, Rajbagh, on Monday, with more than 180 players participating in various age-group categories.
The two-day championship is being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council with technical support from the District Srinagar Softball Association.
The event was declared open by the Manager of Gindun Sports Centre. Officials said competitions are being held in sub-junior boys and girls, junior boys and girls, and senior men and women categories.
A total of nine matches were played on the opening day across different age groups.
According to the organisers, the championship is being conducted under the supervision of Mohammad Iqbal Beigh, a National Institute of Sports (NIS) coach in softball.
During the opening ceremony, speakers highlighted the role of sports in youth development and emphasised the importance of encouraging participation in games to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The championship is sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.
