SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Sujit Kumar on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security grid in Srinagar and discuss measures to ease traffic congestion at key bottlenecks across the city.
The meeting, held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, was attended by senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Traffic Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and intelligence agencies.
Officials briefed the IGP on the prevailing security situation in their respective jurisdictions and shared suggestions aimed at strengthening security arrangements and improving traffic management.
According to police, the meeting reviewed the existing security grid and deployment patterns in Srinagar, with particular focus on the functioning of naka points. Discussions were held on realigning certain checkpoints where necessary to enhance security coverage while reducing traffic congestion.
The IGP directed officers to strengthen security measures across intra-zone, inter-zone, inter-district and peripheral areas. He also called for reinforcing check posts at key entry and exit points of Srinagar city.
Police said Kumar emphasised closer coordination and real-time information sharing among district police units, traffic police and personnel deployed at naka points to improve monitoring and response mechanisms.
He also stressed the use of technology for traffic regulation, surveillance, coordination and information sharing to make both security and traffic management systems more effective.
The meeting concluded with directions for regular review and coordinated implementation of security and traffic management measures aimed at ensuring public safety while minimising inconvenience to commuters.
