SHOPIAN: Security forces on Sunday recovered and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) in Awneera village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said.
According to officials, the suspected explosive device was spotted during a routine search operation near a roadside in the area. It was later identified as an IED.
Following the detection, security forces cordoned off the area and restricted public movement as a precautionary measure.
A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), along with police and other security personnel, was rushed to the site. The device was subsequently defused safely without causing any damage, officials said.
A senior police officer confirmed the recovery and disposal of the IED and said further investigation into the matter has been initiated. (GNS)
