PULWAMA: The district administration Pulwama on Sunday organised an awareness programme under the nationwide Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan to educate people about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote a drug-free society.
Held at the Circuit House in Pulwama, the programme brought together representatives from various government departments and focused on the physical, psychological, social and economic consequences of drug abuse.
Officials from the Health, Education and Social Welfare departments addressed the gathering and highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to prevent the spread of substance abuse. They also stressed the role of educational institutions in creating awareness through counselling, sensitisation programmes and community engagement.
Experts from the Health Department discussed the health risks associated with drug addiction and underscored the importance of early identification, timely medical intervention, counselling and rehabilitation.
Speakers also highlighted the need for support mechanisms for individuals and families affected by substance abuse and encouraged those struggling with addiction to seek professional assistance.
The participants were urged to contribute to awareness campaigns and support collective efforts involving government agencies, educational institutions, parents and civil society organisations to combat drug abuse.
The Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan is part of a national campaign aimed at promoting a healthy and drug-free lifestyle among young people.
