SRINAGAR: Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Saturday called for a review and rationalisation of Jammu and Kashmir’s reservation policy, saying the existing system was “not judicious” and should be based on population ratio.
Bukhari made the remarks while speaking to reporters after inaugurating an exhibition in Srinagar featuring handicrafts, jewellery and other products displayed by young entrepreneurs from Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country.
Responding to a question on the reservation policy, Bukhari said the existing framework required review to ensure what he described as fair and equitable representation of different sections of society.
“My stand on the reservation issue is clear: reservation should be based on population, ensuring fair and equitable representation of different sections of society,” he said.
Referring to the exhibition, Bukhari welcomed the participation of exhibitors from Srinagar, Jammu, Delhi and Punjab and said such events provided opportunities for entrepreneurs to showcase their products and skills.
He said the exhibitions encouraged young people by offering exposure, helping them develop business ideas and explore new opportunities.
