SRINAGAR: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat has approved the attachment of properties belonging to two alleged Pakistan-based militants from Kupwara district under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to officials, the attached properties comprise 15 kanals and seven marlas of land and two residential houses located in Kachama village of Kupwara.
The properties belong to Abdul Majid Qureshi, son of Abdul Rouf Qureshi, and Parvaiz Ahmad Qureshi, son of Mohammad Mustafa Qureshi, both residents of Kachama.
Officials said the property linked to Abdul Majid Qureshi includes 10 kanals and seven marlas of land along with a three-storeyed residential house, while the property linked to Parvaiz Ahmad Qureshi comprises five kanals of land and a single-storeyed residential house.
According to police, the properties are registered in the names of the two accused and have been identified as alleged “proceeds of terrorism” under Section 2(1)(g)(ii) of the UAPA.
The attachment has been carried out in connection with FIR No. 276/2022 registered at Police Station Kupwara under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 120-B, 121, 121-A, 122 and 123, as well as Sections 17, 18, 18-A, 18-B, 20, 38, 39 and 40 of the UAPA.
Officials said the action was taken under Section 25 of the UAPA after obtaining the required prior approval.
The investigation in the case is ongoing.
