SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has fixed timelines for completion and handover of remaining accommodation units under the Prime Minister’s Package for Kashmiri migrant employees and reviewed plans for renovation and infrastructure upgrades in migrant camps.
The decisions were taken at a review meeting of projects being implemented by the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRR&R), jointly chaired by Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works (R&B), Anil Kumar Singh and Principal Secretary, DMRR&R, Chandraker Bharti.
Officials informed the meeting that of the 6,000 flats sanctioned for PM Package employees at 20 locations across the Kashmir Valley, 5,176 have been completed. Allied infrastructure, including lifts, internal roads, drainage systems and community halls, is also nearing completion at most sites.
The meeting fixed deadlines for completion of the remaining works and directed that completed flats be handed over to eligible employees in phases as per existing allotment norms.
Reviewing facilities for Kashmiri migrants in Jammu, officials said the government had approved ₹82.45 crore for major repairs and renovation of blocks in migrant camps. Tendering formalities have been completed and work is expected to commence shortly.
The meeting also directed officials to prepare a detailed project report for upgrading infrastructure in migrant schools, health dispensaries, internal roads and parks within the camps.
Construction of the PoJK Bhawan at Suketar also came up for review, with officials asked to ensure completion of the project during the current financial year.
Chief Engineer, PW(R&B), Jammu informed the meeting that the detailed project report for additional housing units for Kashmiri migrants at Purkhoo was being finalised. He said a multipurpose community hall at Jagti, built at an estimated cost of ₹6.5 crore, had been completed.
Officials further informed the meeting that tendering was underway for new projects worth around ₹20 crore at the Purkhoo, Nagrota, Muthi and Jagti migrant camps during the current financial year.
Plans are also being prepared for projects proposed for the next financial year, including e-learning centres, digital libraries, reading rooms, career counselling facilities, skill development and vocational training centres, entrepreneurship support centres, sports infrastructure and solar power and water conservation initiatives.
