Nabi, who has represented Jammu and Kashmir in domestic cricket and recently impressed during his stint with Surrey in the English County circuit, has been rewarded for his consistent performances with a place in the national team.

The 25-year-old seamer becomes one of the few cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir to earn selection to the Indian senior men’s team, underlining the growing contribution of the Union Territory to Indian cricket.

The ODI squad also includes Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj, while Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir has also received his maiden ODI call-up.

India will play three ODIs and five T20 Internationals against the West Indies beginning September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram.

The selectors have recalled veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to the ODI setup, while Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant were not included in the squad.

Nabi’s inclusion is being viewed as recognition of his steady rise through the domestic ranks and his recent success in county cricket, where he impressed with both pace and discipline.

India ODI squad: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (Vice-Captain), Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, Auqib Nabi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Naman Dhir.
