Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday inaugurated the Rotary Satellite Club-Kashmir Valley, a new Rotary platform aimed at promoting community service and social development in the Valley.
The club has been established under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Dahanu and Rotary International District 3141, which covers Mumbai and has more than 100 member clubs.
Addressing the function, Omar welcomed Rotary’s expansion into Jammu and Kashmir and appreciated its contribution in areas such as healthcare, education, sanitation, environmental protection and community development.
He stressed the need to support Kashmiri artisans through skill development, innovation, market access and livelihood opportunities, while also highlighting the potential role of Rotary in strengthening tourism and hospitality through professional training, youth engagement and responsible tourism initiatives.
The Chief Minister urged the newly installed Board to identify local needs and undertake sustainable community projects in coordination with government departments and institutions.
Referring to Rotary International’s theme, “Create Lasting Impact”, he said sustained community-oriented service can generate long-term social benefits.
Omar also felicitated individuals for their contributions to tourism, art, hospitality and public service and extended his best wishes to the Rotary Satellite Club-Kashmir Valley for its future initiatives.
Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLAs Tanvir Sadiq and Salman Ali Sagar, Rotary leaders and representatives from the hospitality sector attended the event.
The programme also featured the installation of the club’s Board of Directors and presentation of awards recognising service to society.
