KISHTWAR: National Conference (NC) leaders on Tuesday accused the Leader of Opposition (LoP) of failing to address key developmental issues in the Padder-Nagseni Assembly constituency and alleged that the area continues to lag behind in infrastructure and rehabilitation efforts.
Addressing a series of party workers’ meetings at Machail, Gulabgarh and Kishtwar, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary questioned the pace of development in the constituency and raised concerns over the status of the proposed road connecting Gulabgarh and Machail.
Choudhary also referred to the rehabilitation of families affected by the Chisoti cloudburst tragedy, alleging that several affected households were yet to receive proper housing and rehabilitation support. He further claimed that the benefits of power projects in the constituency had not reached all sections of the population.
He said the people of Padder-Nagseni deserved accountability, transparency and equitable development, and called for addressing local issues on the ground.
Speaking at the meetings, NC Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) outreach initiatives, including the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, alleging that such programmes were focused more on political publicity than resolving public issues.
Gupta claimed that Padder-Nagseni remained underdeveloped in areas such as road connectivity, rehabilitation and public infrastructure, and said the NC would continue to raise what it described as the genuine concerns of residents. He also urged party workers to strengthen grassroots outreach in Padder-Nagseni and Kishtwar constituencies.
Member of Parliament and NC Zonal President for Chenab Valley Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo highlighted developmental demands from Kishtwar and Padder-Nagseni and sought greater attention for the region from the government.
The meetings were attended by district and zonal-level NC leaders and party functionaries from Kishtwar and surrounding areas.
