SRINAGAR: Two persons, including a woman, were injured in separate bear attacks reported from Shopian and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir on Friday.
A 40-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a wild bear in an apple orchard in the Sedow area of Shopian district.
Officials said the victim, identified as Sadiq Ahmad Thokar (40), son of Abdul Rahman and a resident of Sedow, was attacked while in the orchard. He was shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Shopian for treatment.
In a separate incident, a woman sustained injuries after a bear attack in the Handoora area of Tral in Pulwama district.
The injured woman was identified as Hajra Begum, wife of Ghulam Ahmad Khan and a resident of Handoora. She was initially taken to SDH Tral for treatment.
Following the incident, local residents urged the Wildlife Department to take immediate preventive measures, citing increased movement of bears in residential and agricultural areas.
Authorities have taken cognisance of both incidents.
