SRINAGAR, Sept 10: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar, on Thursday visited Kulgam and Shopian districts to review the security situation, counter-terrorism operations, crime control measures and overall law and order scenario in south Kashmir.
The IGP was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Mattoo.
During the visit, Kumar chaired separate security and crime review meetings in both districts. The meetings were attended by the respective Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), senior officers and jurisdictional gazetted officers.
According to police, the SSPs of Kulgam and Shopian briefed the IGP on the prevailing security situation, anti-terror operations, counter-insurgency mechanisms, crime prevention measures and steps being taken to maintain public order.
Reviewing operational preparedness, Kumar stressed the importance of proactive intelligence gathering, close coordination among security agencies and prompt response to emerging security challenges.
He directed field units to maintain pressure on terrorist networks and adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards elements attempting to disrupt peace and public order.
As part of the visit, the IGP also inspected the D.H. Pora sub-division in Kulgam district, where he interacted with supervisory officers, Station House Officers (SHOs) and personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG).
Police said the visit was aimed at assessing ground-level preparedness and reviewing the functioning of security and policing mechanisms in the two districts.
