Jammu: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a treasury clerk posted in Kalakote, Rajouri, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a retired government employee.
The accused, identified as Khadam Hussain, was working as a clerk in the Treasury Office, Kalakote. According to the ACB, he was caught red-handed during a trap operation while allegedly accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The case originated from a complaint filed by a retired fourth-class employee of the Health Department, who alleged that he had approached the Treasury Office for withdrawal of his gratuity amount of ₹50,000.
According to the complaint, the clerk allegedly demanded ₹25,000 as illegal gratification for processing the withdrawal. The complainant reportedly informed the official about his poor financial condition, following which the alleged demand was reduced to ₹20,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a written complaint seeking action against the official.
The ACB said the allegations were verified and a case was registered before a team from ACB Police Station Rajouri laid a trap.
During the operation, the accused was allegedly caught while demanding and accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant and was arrested on the spot.
The agency said searches were also conducted at the accused’s residence in Rajouri as part of the investigation.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
