SOPORE, Sept 8: Police have arrested two persons and seized a load carrier allegedly transporting around 200 litres of diesel without valid documents in the Rafiabad area of Sopore.
According to police, the vehicle, a Tata load carrier bearing registration number JK16A-5144, was intercepted during naka checking at Chijhama in the jurisdiction of Police Post Watergam.
During the inspection, police recovered approximately 200 litres of diesel from the vehicle. The two occupants, identified as Showkat Ahmad Tantray and Mohammad Dilawar Beigh, both residents of Dangerpora, Sopore, were unable to produce documents or authorisation for possession and transportation of the fuel, police said.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the diesel was allegedly being transported for unauthorised sale, police added.
A case under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha. The two accused have been arrested, while the vehicle and the seized diesel have been taken into custody.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the fuel, its intended destination and any other links connected with the case.
