Srinagar: Three persons were killed and at least 10 others injured in separate road accidents reported from Anantnag, Baramulla, Kathua and Poonch districts on Sunday.

In south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a 36-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident near Fisheries Kokernag. Officials said an unidentified vehicle struck Tariq Ahmad Kalas, son of Mohammad Shareef Kalas of Shalnard, Lisser, Kokernag, late Saturday night and fled the scene.

The injured man was shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kokernag, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police have registered a case and launched efforts to trace the vehicle involved. (GNS)

In another tragic incident in north Kashmir’s Sopore area, a man died after falling beneath a moving truck at Chankhan. Officials said the victim sustained fatal injuries after coming under the vehicle and was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

He was identified as Ghulam Nabi Ganie, son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganie, a resident of Untoo Hamam, Sopore. Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, a woman lost her life and two others were injured when a load carrier collided with an e-rickshaw on Dhar Road in the Billawar area of Kathua district.

Officials said the accident occurred near Darmani when the load carrier hit the e-rickshaw carrying three passengers. All three sustained injuries and were shifted to SDH Billawar, where one woman succumbed to her injuries. Her identity was not immediately known.

The two injured persons were undergoing treatment and were likely to be referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and started an investigation.

In Poonch district, eight persons were injured after a Tata Sumo rolled down the road near Bedar on the Bedar–Dunogam link road in Mandi.

The injured were identified as Mohd Arif (17), Sharaz Ahmed (15), Naseer Ahmed (16), Mumtaz Ahmed (20), Habib Dar (70), Mohd Shafi (22), Iqlak Ahmed (18), all residents of Dunogam, and Zahid Ahmed (18) of Rajouri.

All the injured were shifted to SDH Mandi for treatment. Police have taken cognisance of the accident and initiated further investigation.
