Srinagar: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday appealed to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to meet the protesting medical interns at the earliest and resolve their issues.

“It is deeply painful to see young doctors who work exhausting 36-hour shifts, including through the night, caring for patients and saving lives, being forced onto the streets to demand what is rightfully theirs,” Mehbooba posted on X after visiting the protesting MBBS interns at a government hospital here.

The MBBS and BDS interns in Jammu and Kashmir went on an indefinite strike from Monday, demanding their stipend be hiked from Rs 12300 to Rs 30000 per month.

Mehbooba said these young doctors are the backbone of the healthcare system.

They dedicate their lives to serving people, and deserve our respect, dignity and support, not indifference, she added.

“I appeal to Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah to meet these students at the earliest and resolve the issue of their Rs 30,000 stipend within the next 7-10 days,” she said.
