LEH: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday flagged off the inaugural edition of Ladakh Bike Week 2026, a week-long tourism event aimed at promoting the Union Territory as a destination for motorcycle and adventure tourism.

Organised by the Department of Tourism, Ladakh, the event will run from September 1 to 7 and includes a motorcycle rally, a Himalayan basecamp and a vintage motorcycle exhibition.

A key feature of the programme is the Ladakh Motorcycle Rally, scheduled from September 1 to 3, in which 11 professional riders from different parts of the country are participating. The rally includes a route through eastern Ladakh, including the Galwan region.

The Himalayan Basecamp at Chuchot in Leh, to be held from September 4 to 6, will feature workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and community engagement activities. Organisers expect around 5,500 visitors per day during the three-day event.

A Vintage Motorcycle Showcase has also been organised at Leh Market from September 1 to 7, displaying 15 classic and vintage motorcycles from different periods of motorcycling history.

According to officials, Ladakh Bike Week is among eight tourism festivals identified by the Union Territory administration to promote tourism, encourage visitor engagement and diversify tourism activities across the region.

Interacting with participants, Saxena said the expansion of adventure tourism should be pursued in a responsible and environmentally sustainable manner. He urged visitors to respect Ladakh’s fragile Himalayan ecosystem while exploring the region.

Officials said the event is expected to generate business for hotels, guest houses, homestays, transport operators, guides, restaurants, handicraft sellers and other tourism-related service providers. The programme is also intended to highlight lesser-known destinations and community-based tourism initiatives in Ladakh.
