SRINAGAR: The Budgam–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Special Express has resumed operations, restoring direct rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and Katra and eliminating the need for passengers to change trains at Banihal.
Railway officials said Train No. 04688/04687 Budgam–Katra–Budgam Special Express resumed service on August 29, providing a more convenient travel option for passengers, particularly pilgrims travelling to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
Earlier, travellers had to disembark and switch trains at Banihal, a process that often caused inconvenience and added to travel time. With the restoration of the direct service, passengers can now travel seamlessly between Budgam and Katra.
Railway authorities said the train has received a positive response from passengers since its resumption, with commuters from stations including Budgam, Srinagar, Anantnag, Qazigund, Banihal, Sangaldan, Reasi and Katra welcoming the move.
Passengers said the direct service would help save both time and travel costs while providing a more comfortable and hassle-free journey.
