REASI: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Thursday ruled out the possibility of the Congress joining the Omar Abdullah-led government, saying the party would not become part of the administration until statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters after addressing a joining programme organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) Reasi, Karra said the Congress had taken a principled stand on the restoration of statehood and other constitutional rights and that the party’s position remained unchanged.
He said the Congress would not compromise on its demand for restoration of statehood in order to join the government. At the same time, he asserted that the party would continue to support the National Conference-led government if any attempt was made to destabilise it.
Karra said the Congress support to the government did not mean the party would remain silent on issues concerning governance or the implementation of commitments made to the people.
Referring to the recent power tariff hike, he said the Congress had opposed any additional burden on consumers and called for a comprehensive amnesty scheme to provide relief to the public.
