SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Thursday reviewed a series of proposed road infrastructure projects for Srinagar aimed at improving urban mobility, easing traffic congestion and strengthening the city’s transportation network.
The review meeting was attended by senior officers from the district administration, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Public Works Department (PWD), Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Traffic Police, KPDCL and other concerned departments.
During the meeting, the Superintending Engineer, PWD, presented responses to observations raised during an earlier review of the proposed Parimpora–Dalgate Flyover, along with an analytical report on the project.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the Commissioner SMC to submit the final report of the committee constituted to assess the project’s impact on traffic decongestion and urban mobility. He asked that inputs and concerns raised by all stakeholder departments be incorporated into the report.
Garg stressed that the flyover proposal should be examined through a comprehensive assessment of its impact on the overall transportation network rather than in isolation, and called for detailed technical evaluation before the project is taken forward.
The meeting also reviewed the proposed Ring Road Part-III project, particularly the Lasjan–Pandach stretch passing through Srinagar. The Divisional Commissioner examined three alternative alignments proposed by the NHAI and reviewed observations submitted by the I&FC Department and the Cantonment Board regarding the proposed eight-kilometre flyover component between Lasjan and Dalgate.
He directed the Chief Engineer, I&FC, to hold discussions with the NHAI on the proposed alignment and associated technical issues, with special emphasis on ensuring that the project does not adversely affect the embankments of the River Jhelum.
Garg underscored the need for coordinated planning among departments to ensure that major road projects are technically sound, environmentally sustainable and aligned with the objective of improving mobility and reducing traffic congestion in Srinagar.
