SRINAGAR, Aug 25: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, against a man accused of cheating a cancer patient’s family by promising medicines at discounted rates and failing to deliver them.
The chargesheet was filed against Afaq Ahmad Thug in connection with FIR No. 25/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the EOW, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the accused induced the complainant to pay a substantial amount of money on the promise of supplying medicines for his wife, who was undergoing treatment for cancer, at a lower cost. However, the medicines were never supplied.
During the investigation, the allegations were found to be substantiated. Investigators also found that the complainant and the accused had been schoolmates at a boarding school more than four decades ago.
Following completion of the investigation, the EOW filed the chargesheet before the court for judicial proceedings in accordance with law.
