Srinagar, Aug 21: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has placed a Junior Building Inspector under suspension following her arrest by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a corruption case.
According to an order issued by the Commissioner, SMC, Gazala Akhter, Junior Building Inspector of Ward No. 28, has been deemed under suspension with effect from August 20, the date of her arrest.
The suspension has been ordered under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956.
The action follows a communication from the Senior Superintendent of Police, ACB Srinagar, regarding her arrest in FIR No. 11/2026 registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
During the suspension period, Akhter will remain attached to the office of the Joint Commissioner (Sanitation), SMC. She will be entitled to a subsistence allowance at 50 per cent of her pay and dearness allowance in accordance with Article 108-A of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service Regulations, 1956.
The ACB had on Thursday trapped and arrested the official for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe.
