Srinagar: United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor is arriving Srinagar Wednesday for an overnight stay and will proceed to Ladakh the next day.
Gor’s visit marks his maiden trip to Jammu and Kashmir after he presented his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu on January 14, 2026, formally taking over as the 27th US Ambassador to India.
The envoy is likely to hold meetings with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and will stay overnight at a Srinagar hotel.
The visit comes against the backdrop of deepening India-US strategic partnership under the current administrations in both countries.
Since taking charge in New Delhi, Gor has engaged extensively with Indian leadership on issues including defence, trade, technology, critical minerals, counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics.
He has held meetings with senior figures including Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Gor, a close associate of US President Donald Trump, previously served as Assistant to the President and Director of Presidential Personnel in the White House.
Before that, he co-founded a publishing house with Donald Trump Jr. and has long experience in US politics and legislative affairs.
Security arrangements are expected to be heightened for the Ambassador’s movement in Srinagar.
Further details of the itinerary and the outcomes of the meetings with the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister are likely to emerge after the visit concludes.
