SRINAGAR: Fifty-one Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel have been selected for gallantry and meritorious service medals on the occasion of Independence Day 2026, according to the official honours list released on Friday.
The awardees include 38 recipients of the Medal for Gallantry (GM) and 13 recipients of the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM). In addition, one personnel from the J&K Home Guards and Civil Defence has been selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service.
Among those selected for the Medal for Gallantry are Deputy Inspector General Shiv Kumar, IPS; Deputy Inspector General Pande Rajiv Omprakash, IPS; Senior Superintendent of Police Shobhit D. Saksena, IPS; Superintendent of Police Nasir Ahmad; Superintendent of Police Mushtaq Ahmad; and Superintendent of Police Divya D., IPS.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarfaraz Bashir has been awarded the second bar to the Medal for Gallantry, while Head Constable Rayeesh Ahmad Reshi and Selection Grade Constable Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan have been awarded the first bar to the medal.
The Medal for Meritorious Service has been awarded to 13 police personnel, including SP Sandeep Kumar, SP Amit Gupta, DSP Rajesh Sharma, DSP Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, DSP Kuljeet Singh, DSP Sharat Chander Singh, Inspector Shamim Ahmed, Inspector Vikram Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Bodh Raj, Inspector Mumin Ahmad Rather, ASI Mushtaq Ahmed, Sub-Inspector Manzoor Ahmad Gada and Constable Ashraf Gull.
The awards recognise acts of gallantry and distinguished service rendered by personnel of police and other uniformed services.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated the awardees, stating that their courage, dedication and commitment to duty reflected the highest traditions of public service. He also extended his congratulations to the Home Guards and Civil Defence personnel selected for the honour.
The Kashmir Police Zone also congratulated the medal recipients, describing the awards as recognition of exemplary service and dedication to duty. (KNO)
