Jammu: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shri Mukund Tibrewal on Wednesday reviewed security arrangements and operational preparedness in Reasi district’s Pouni sub-division ahead of the annual Budha Amarnath Yatra, officials said.
The Budha Amarnath yatra, commencing on August 16 from Jammu, will pass through the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch axis, with security agencies undertaking extensive measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims and maintain smooth movement along the route
The SSP, who chaired a high-level meeting, directed officers to maintain heightened vigilance, intensify area domination and ensure foolproof security arrangements for the safety of pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage, officials said.
The SSP also visited locations of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployed for yatra duties and interacted with company commanders to review accommodation, logistics and operational coordination, they said.
He stressed the need for alertness, buddy-pair operations, and enhanced vigilance in view of the sensitivity of the area, asking the personnel to discharge their duties with dedication and professionalism.
He subsequently inspected the security checkpoint at Bhambla and directed personnel to conduct surprise checks at police checkpoints at regular intervals, including thorough frisking and checking of vehicles and suspicious persons to prevent any security breach.
At Pouni Police Station, the SSP inspected various sections, including record rooms and other facilities, and issued directions for further strengthening the security grid, surveillance and coordination among the forces.
“The safety and security of pilgrims remains the top priority,” the SSP said, stressing heightened alertness, close inter-agency coordination and strict adherence to standard operating procedures throughout the yatra.
The visit reaffirmed Reasi Police’s commitment to ensuring a secure and peaceful environment for the annual pilgrimage, officials said.
The Budha Amarnath temple is an ancient Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Rajpura village of Mandi tehsil, in the Poonch district.
Situated at about 4,600-5,742 feet above sea level, it features a white stone Shivling and is famous for its annual Sawan pilgrimage and Raksha Bandhan mela.
